In addition, the organization needs to raise $300,000 for the remainder of the year for rent and operational costs. The organization is in critical needs since its primary source of funding, the Nicholson Foundation, is unable to renew their grant in 2010.

Founded in 2003 by Earl “The Street Doctor” Best, Street Warriors In., engages and provides Newark’s youth with numerous violence prevention programs that aid in creating safer neighborhoods while also helping youth to lead successful lives. The Street Doctor and his organization were prominently featured in the Sundance Channel documentary “Brick City”.

Believing that strengthening the Street Warriors capacity to fulfill their mission will create a positive cycle of increased programming, Councilman Rice is hosting this mixer to encourage everyone to donate to the organization. Donations can also be made directly to the Street Warriors by visiting their website at www.streetwarriorsinc.org.

For more information, call Councilman Rice’s office at (973) 733-6427.
