FATEEN ZIYAD
During his 24 years of public service, Fateen Ziyad has held numerous positions within the department, including but not limited to: Chief of Staff to the Fire Director, Commandant of the Community Relations Division, Affirmative Action Officer, Commandant of the Planning & Research Division, Public Information Officer, Recruitment Officer, Hearing Officer and Executive Officer to the Fire Director.
Over the years, Director Ziyad has served on numerous Fire Department, City, County and State committees. Amongst them are: the Newark Fire Department’s Safety Committee, Homeland Security Committee, Newark Peoples Festival, Public Employees Charitable Campaign, Essex County Office of Emergency Management, County Fire Mutual Aid, the New Jersey Department of Personnel’s Entry Level Test Committee, NJDOP Fire Captain’s Text Committee, NJDOP Consent Decree Cities Review Board.
A graduate from Kean University of New Jersey with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, Director Ziyad has obtained numerous certifications and training in the field of fire science. He is a graduate of the nationally-recognized Executive Development Institute (EDI) Masters Program in Fire Administration, Dillard University, New Orleans, and received State of New Jersey certification in EEOC and Affirmative Action from Rutgers University. Presently he is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Education. He serves as a staff member for EDI, Clark-Atlanta University, Georgia.
His professional affiliations and memberships include: St. Barnabas Burn Foundation, Firemen’s Benevolent Association, International Association of Black Professional Firefighters, Women in the Fire Service, Parents Teachers Association, Vulcan Pioneers of New Jersey, Black Fire Chief Officer Committee, NAACP, Communities in Schools, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Boy Scouts of America and the W.A.R.I.S. Islamic Center.
Director Ziyad has been involved with mentoring young men for more than 35 years. He is presently serving on the Board of Directors of the International Youth Organization, a Newark community center dedicated to the personal and professional development of young people and as a volunteer for Newark Re-Direct (a child education advocacy program). He as been a “Big Brother” in the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program for over 20 years and is a committee member of the Essex County Boys Scouts of America Explorers Program.
