Our mission is clear: Newark will set a national standard for urban transformation by marshalling its tremendous resources to achieve security, economic abundance and an environment that is nurturing and empowering for families.   It is crucial that all of us rise to meet these bold goals. 

In the months that we've been in office we have laid the foundation to accomplish these core objectives. Throughout our government, city workers, departments and divisions are demonstrating their capacity to make transformative change. There is a renewed feeling of hope and optimism in our city.

As we march into 2010 we will face a host of challenges, from a significant budget deficit, to the urgent need to increase quality jobs that pay a living wage, to providing more affordable homes for Newarkers. I am confident the City of Newark will overcome all obstacles and fulfill her larger mission and destiny to become a national standard of excellence. 

It is truly a privilege to work every day for the betterment of this great city and in service of its residents.  Newark , with its glorious past and unlimited potential, will flex its pride once again.
