Strong Families, Strong Neighborhoods
Newark's 12 Family Success Centers help strengthen families and neighborhoods.
The Newark Family Success paradigm envisions that Newark families will have accessible family friendly resources and support located in their own neighborhoods.
Our goal is that every family and every neighbor will have the skills, resources, and motivation to successfully raise their children, our children from birth to adulthood.
The Booker Administration led the effort to establish a community-based infrastructure to support families.
The Newark Family Success Center Network, a coordinated network of neighborhood-based and focused Family Success Centers for Newark residents forms the backbone of the Strong Families, Strong Neighborhoods strategy.
In partnership with the foundation community, the State of New Jersey Departments of Children & Families and Labor & Workforce Development, and Newark Now, the Administration has established twelve new Family Success Centers and four focused Success Centers designed to offer Newark residents the resources and support they need to succeed.
Each of the twelve neighborhood-based Family Success Centers offers families an array of social, economic, and community services and resources based on their individual wants and needs. These Centers are operated by a group of well-proven and respected community-based provider organizations and increasingly offer parents a strong voice in the delivery of services through Parent Councils.
Each focused Success Center offers a comprehensive array of services to under-served residents or specialized needs. To date, four focused Success Centers have opened - the
YEES Center serving vulnerable youth, the
Newark Comprehensive Center for Fathers, the Grand Families Center, and the
Newark Financial Empowerment Center.

The next phase of development envisions the addition of eight additional Family Success Centers to assure access throughout the City, and two additional focused Success Centers; one for mothers, and an afterschool center for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transitioning and questioning youth.
Through a formal Memorandum of Understanding, the Family Success Centers and services are coordinated by Newark Now, a community-based intermediary organization, to promote consistency, high standards, information-sharing, and resource development. The focused Success Centers are being engaged to become part of the Network.
Directory for Youth and Families
A 2010 City Directory for Youth and Families to empower families to connect to the resources they need. The Newark community is rich in resources but many residents have voiced concern about how to find out what is available to them. This directory provides residents with a full range of resource information and highlights many of the community partners that have worked so hard to make Newark a great place for families.
