The City of Newark’s Municipal Governance is separated into three distinct branches of government, Executive, Legislative and Judicial. As the Acting Chief Judge of the Newark Municipal Court, I am honored to serve as the head of the City of Newark’s Judicial Branch of Government.
 
Our Municipal Court is the largest of the twenty-two municipal courts in Essex County. It is also the largest municipal court in the State of New Jersey and one of the largest in the country. The Court has twelve full-time judges and over one hundred employees. It has day and evening sessions Monday through Friday and day sessions on weekends. The Court addresses over 500,000 traffic, criminal, domestic violence, DWI, housing and city ordinance cases on an annual basis.

As the Acting Chief Judge, my primary role is administrative in nature. I coordinate all aspects of the Court’s daily operations to provide effective case management and customer service. Our Court also utilizes all available sentencing options to reduce recidivism by addressing its underlying root causes.

It is my goal to ensure that the Newark Municipal Court continues to be a beacon of fairness, efficiency and integrity for all.
