Statement from Newark Municipal Council President, Mildred C. Crump:
“Having known Keith Reid for most of his life, this situation saddens and shocks me. I cannot forget that this is also a painful time for his family and friends who are also suffering through this. My prayers go out to them. Keith has requested a leave of absence from his duties as my chief of staff, which I have granted, effective immediately.
“In the meantime, we are awaiting the report from Newark Inspector General, James Wright, which will be completed by Monday. I will review it and make a decision based on its findings. I must add that this is a nation of laws and no one has forfeited their right to due process. However, I believe it is in the best interest of this Office, our community and Keith that he is allowed to focus his energy on addressing his personal matters.
