Ron C. Rice & Mayor Cory Booker to Host Toy Giveaway
and
1Annual West Ward Tree Lighting Ceremony

NEWARK—The people of the West Ward are hard-working, resilient and charitable, according to West Ward Councilmember Ron. C. Rice. As such, he says that he is proud to host, along with Mayor Cory Booker and the city of Newark, a toy giveaway at the Boylan Street Recreation Center at 926 South Orange Avenue. The first ever West Ward tree lighting ceremony will follow from 4pm to 5pm or as soon as it gets dark outside.

“Every year most of us acknowledge that the world would be a better place if the spirit of the holiday season persisted all year, and actually, I think that most of us try to live up to that standard. Whatever the case, we’ve got to start somewhere and I think that the toy giveaway is the perfect gesture, while the tree lighting symbolizes our unity. It is important to remember that it is the philanthropy of the community that makes it all possible,” Rice said.

The newly refurbished Boylan Street Recreation Center is a jewel of the city’s Neighborhood and Recreational Services department. Mayor Booker will also be in attendance.

The toy giveaway begins at 1pm. The tree lighting will follow as soon as evening falls.
