Newark, NJ – October 14, 2011 – Mayor Cory A. Booker, the City of Newark, and the American Cancer Society will lead the society’s annual “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk to raise funds to fight breast cancer and increase awareness of the need for early screening and treatment, on Sunday, October 16, 2011, at 10 a.m. To date, the American Cancer Society has funded more than $400 million in breast cancer specific research—more than any other non-government organization. This year’s theme is “More Pink For Your Green.”

Registration starts at Military Park in Downtown Newark at 8 a.m. There will be a ceremony at 9 a.m. The walk will begin at 10 a.m. Preceding the walk will be two vintage Cadillacs, belonging to Cadillac Alliance, Inc., a Newark-based auto club.

The Newark Division of Communications and the Office of Council Member-at-Large and event Co-Chair Mildred Crump will lead a team of Newark municipal employees and breast cancer survivors who are also participating in this important walk for a cure.
