Vendor Opportunities

Broken into three neighborhoods – Ironbound, Dayton, and the Downtown section – the East Ward also is home to roughly 55,000 residents. Here, Spanish and Portuguese cultures mingle with Puerto Rican, Cuban, Irish, Italian, Polish, Jewish, Slavic and Lithuanian. The East Ward is represented by Council Member Augusto Amador.

The largest ethnic group is Portuguese, representing roughly 40 percent of the East Ward population. Residents of Spanish descent comprise about 15 percent, followed by those of Puerto Rican descent (10 percent) and Cuban descent (5 percent).

The Ironbound district, which draws its name from the iron rails that remain from the period when trains were the nation’s primary mode of transportation, is known throughout the metropolitan region for its fine restaurants serving Portuguese and Spanish cuisine. It also is home to the Ironbound Community Corporation, founded in 1969 by community residents to assist neighborhood people in developing community-based programs, and the Ironbound Educational and Cultural Center, which is the force behind New Jersey's first multi-ethnic heritage museum and theatre.

The East Ward has 13 public schools, two universities, three police stations, seven fire stations, two library branches, three daycare centers, and one hospital.
